Park Ranger (Protection)

As a Law Enforcement commissioned Ranger, incumbent is responsible for performing law enforcement duties including detection, investigation, apprehension, detection, and prosecution of applicable laws, rules, and regulations enacted to insure the protection and safe use of National Park resources; educates, interprets, and informs visitors about resources, conservation, laws, and regulations; patrols and marks park boundary; performs wildland fire protection duties. Incumbent will be expected to regularly paddle a variety of watercraft (kayaks, rafts, etc.) down Class III and Class IV whitewater in order to patrol the park's streams and to maintain readiness for river-based search and rescue. Incumbent will be expected to perform high angle rescues and to develop and maintain a proficiency in rock climbing, defined as the ability to lead climb routes graded as 5.9 or harder on the Yosemite Decimal System. This is a temporary position NTE 1 year. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-07/20/2020-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. Experience:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following:
law enforcement or investigative work; park guide or tour leader; resource management related to natural and cultural resources (museum technician, biological science technician, archaeological technician, etc.); forestry and/or fire management (wildland and/or structural); emergency services (emergency medical, search and rescue, emergency dispatch); assist in the management, information dissemination, or the carrying out of programs in a park, conservation reserve or similar area (e.g. backcountry office, volunteer, visitor information desk, campground ranger). . -OR- B. A 4 year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with 24 semester hours of related course work (one year of full time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours). - OR- C. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
